Mexico City Politics: Son Loses Seat in Nepotism Scandal

A political scandal erupts in Mexico City as the mayor's son is removed from his deputy post after the original candidate reclaims his seat, dealing a blow to the Lobo family's nepotistic scheme.

Mexico City Politics: Son Loses Seat in Nepotism Scandal

Substitute deputy Víctor Hugo Lobo Rodríguez was removed from the Congress of Mexico City after Gerardo Rodríguez García returned to claim his seat as a full deputy. However, Lobo Rodríguez blocked the doors of the plenary session on Donceles Street and called the police to cling to his seat. He even used force to prevent Gerardo Rodríguez García from entering the Congress of Mexico City, but in the end, he was able to enter the venue. This move represents a direct blow to his father, Víctor Hugo Lobo Román, who loses the little political control he still had in the Gustavo A. Madero mayor's office. In the past elections, Lobo Román placed his son on the list of proportional substitute deputies, a practice that reflects the nepotism to which his political group is accustomed. The Lobos attempted to apply the 'juanito' scheme, but they did not count on Rodríguez García resisting and deciding to reclaim his political space, willing to dispute the ground they still held in the capital. With this setback, the nepotism scheme that Víctor Hugo Lobo has maintained for years collapses. From the beginning of the Third Legislature, they pressured Gerardo Rodríguez García to abandon his seat immediately after taking the oath, with the aim of imposing Lobo Rodríguez. However, the move did not go as they expected. With a diminished political group and no room for maneuver, Lobo Román is practically erased from the political scene of Mexico City and has no weight within Morena.
